Revelations

Revelations

Revelations is the first artwork of The War Within: Breaking Out of Perdition series. It marks the beginning of the protagonist’s transformative journey.

The piece portrays a detained Black man being thrown from a plane, his body suspended mid-air, freefalling through an endless sky. His expression is one of fear, shock, and disorientation, convinced he is about to die.

Artistically, this moment captures the raw emotional rupture of being forcibly separated from everything familiar — a sudden and violent dislocation that shatters self-identity. The sensation of falling symbolizes the terrifying plunge into the unknown, where control is lost and reality fragments.

Within the larger narrative of The War Within, Revelations acts as a catalyst — the moment when the inner and outer conflicts begin to intertwine. It reflects the experience of individuals, particularly marginalized Black people, who have been “thrown out of the system” — whether through historical erasure, social displacement, or personal trauma.

The composition and atmosphere are designed to provoke a visceral reaction in viewers, pulling them into the protagonist’s perspective. It is a visual metaphor for the first stage of awakening: the shock that precedes transformation throughout The War Within : Breaking out of perdition.
